It Takes Work

I have no fear of drowning
It’s the breathing
That’s taking all this work

These lyrics come from the song Work, by Jars of Clay. As I listened to this song the other day I thought about the families in the program. I thought about how they work each day to move forward and get closer to reaching their goals. Many of the families come to us feeling they are at their lowest point, feeling the nearness of drowning amidst the hardships that have brought them to the place of homelessness. Sometimes, for the families, surviving another day is a huge accomplishment.

The song continues:

Do you know what I mean
When I say I don’t wanna be alone?
What I mean when I say
I don’t wanna be alone?

At Family Promise of Lawrence, we desire to come alongside our families and help them to not feel alone. We want them to feel supported, loved, nurtured…in the hopes that each new day they may find it easier to simply breathe.
