I would like to tell you about my experience with Family Promise. A co-worker told me about the organization. I called and set an appointment to discuss my situation to see if I qualified for the program. I was very fortunate to be able to move into temporary housing fairly quickly.
I had many ups and downs throughout the time that I was in the program. I had family difficulties, vehicle issues, household changes, job stress, deaths of individuals who were very important to me, so many changes occurred throughout this time. I also had the faithful support of some really good people associated with Family Promise. I felt like I had reached a very low point in my life. Time and time again, something came up and with the help of donations from other organizations and moral support from my caseworkers, my C2C partner, the life skills classes and of course my faith in God, I was able to get through those trials.
I learned how to budget more effectively with tools that work for me. I did my best to at least try some of the ideas presented to us in class. Some worked well and others not as well. I have continued to use those which worked for me. For example, sticking to the budget and adding to savings, using utilities less to try to keep bills lowered. Also, the use of things like saving receipts, use of weather strips and plastic on the windows, unplugging plugs of items not being used and mainly just being more aware of utilities. All of these things and more are tools I can use for the rest of my life. I learned more about credit reports, credit scores and many resources to assist with those things. Other resources, including HCCI and the use of food pantries as well have been useful.
I can overall say that I am very thankful for Family Promise and have appreciated their services. I never thought that I would be in this situation, but I sure was fortunate to have Family Promise when I did. Our greatest thanks goes out to all the hard work that Family Promise does for families like ours!! It has been a pleasure to have you all on our sides!! We cannot thank you enough!!
With all my respect,
Shelby and family
