Kemi Yeku, Manager of Family Services

Anyone can have a place in God’s family because everyone, irrespective of their stories, bears the image of the Father. Working in the last ten years with various communities in Nigeria, Canada, and here in Lawrence has presented encounters that make this invaluable truth very real. What a privilege to be on a journey that constantly bids me to truly see and serve people beyond the messiness that is inherent to all of us.

While my academic background in Psychology and Rural Development shapes my work relationships and interactions, the idea that people are always more important than things also guide my daily decisions. I have learnt to always remind myself of this both as a wife and a mom. Beyond working to bring an end to experiences of family homelessness, it’s humbling to serve in a place like Family Promise where people tirelessly work alongside families to lead complete, improved, and holistic lives. I greatly enjoy my role here, and when I’m not working, I spend time with my family, reading, and trying out new recipes.
