On this Road By, Isiah Linnear

On this road called life we come across some unforeseen obstacles,
Some that makes life seem so overwhelming,
Where maintaining seems impossible.

My impossible, overwhelming incident had me feeling like I hit a dead-end.
T-boned by circumstances, I found myself homeless with 5 children.

The psychological play on that as a man was brutal.
I’m to provide and protect

The need for affirmation, love and help on the now was quite crucial.
Some receive through a natural family but that’s a different testimonial.

So I step out on faith skeptically limited with hope or help around us.
I move from Chicago to Lawrence and found an organization called Family Promise.

The love offered was surreal.
It wasn’t just about a roof over our heads
Or being served in the evenings with warm meals, although for that we also were thankful.

It was the compassion and the hearts of all who teamed up opened to help in resolve.
You could tell it was genuine and for me life changing.
No doubt that God was involved.

All that psychological play that caused me to doubt myself as a father and as a man,
It touched me to see my family be embraced by non-judgemental, loving hands.

My kids who, are coming into themselves growing older and building their sense of self confidence,
Through this caring organization, God helped me immensely in their example of patience and tolerance.

Code named “teenage madness” I truly wasn’t prepared for this mission!
The staff and network of volunteers help put my hair loss in remission!

Truly I’m grateful for when my travels ran me down a road of hopelessness
Feeling helpless being homeless…
He kept His Word to me and my kids
Through a Blessing called Family Promise.
