Youth Service Week at Lawrence Family Promise – July 23 – July 27th, 2012

Sitting in my office a bit tired and simply amazed at the youthful energy, servant hearts and love shown to Lawrence Family Promise today.  We had 23 students join us at the day house working from 9 – 3.  They were from Free State, and Lawrence High.  They were from Alexis, Illinois and Lawrence, KS. They were from Core, First Christian, Christ Community and Morning Star youth groups.  They smiled, laughed and worked hard in the heat, they made new friends and shared love through service.

The electricians were not yet complete with the 3rd floor, so they launched into other projects.  They painted the new basement lockers, doors and shelves, they painted the stairwell to the basement, they scraped and painted the front steps and the back porch, they painted the wheelchair ramp, scraped the 2nd floor bathroom, hung blinds,  organized the children’s library, the art closet, and the storage closet, cleaned out the 3rd floor, went to Home Depot to get the youth room paints, went to Hobby Lobby to get the art work for the 3rd floor, and had time to have a fun lunch break with friends, old and new.

And tomorrow they will come again!  All week we will be blessed by additional teens here to give our day center an extreme make over.  We are so excited to see the creative work upstairs in the teen room.  Pictures to come!  Teens, I am blessed to witness your selfless service to your community.  God is so GOOD!
