Wouldn’t It Be Sad – by Board President Dr. Robert Dinsdale

I had a patient, age 93, tell me “Wouldn’t it be sad if all you were known for was living a long time?”  Now any time a 93 year old speaks to me, it gets me thinking, but this really got me thinking.
So often I speed through life, keeping this appointment, returning that phone call.  Being competent.  Is that what I want to be known for?  What am I doing that will last?
Then I think of our Family Promise kids.  Hugging me and wanting to show me their artwork.  Telling me they missed seeing me at the swim time. They are confident because they are housed.  Yes, it is temporary, but they are housed.  They will stay housed after Family Promise, because their parents are in a more stable place.  Their confidence will last.
I am privileged to witness these transformations because of Family Promise.  I am privileged to be known as someone who practices hospitality, by God’s grace, with Family Promise.  And I am joyful!
